VesselChain is committed to revolutionizing the maritime industry through the implementation of blockchain technology. The company’s journey began with the foundational work of Jelurida, the creators of Ardor (founded in 2018) and Ignis (founded in 2018) blockchain technologies. It was founded by Francisco Sarrias, a Telecommunications Engineer and blockchain specialist, and his son Borja Sarrias, a graduate in Management of Business and Technology.
Notable for being the first use case of the Ignis blockchain in the maritime industry, the project quickly gained recognition through features on Tecnonews.es and WeChat, as well as presentations at events like DigiCirc. By utilizing the Ignis blockchain, the team developed its backend, leading to its formal establishment during the B-Blue accelerator program by Barcelona Activa in 2023.
Headquartered at the Blue Tech Port offices in Barcelona Pier01, the company has showcased its progress at IAT Canarias and received an award at BNEW 2023. Its innovative approach has been acknowledged with a nomination for the Ports 4.0 grant, and it has presented its work at the eMobility Expo and the Mobile World Congress.
Founder
A telecommunications Engineer from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) with advanced management training from IESE Business School, brings extensive expertise to both the maritime and blockchain industries. As a long-standing member of the PIANC RecCom Committee, he has significantly advanced marine infrastructure. His role as a Web3 Evangelist at Jelurida Swiss SA highlights his deep involvement in blockchain technology, promoting innovative solutions that integrate blockchain with maritime applications. Additionally, he educates future blockchain leaders at prestigious institutions such as UPC, ensuring a solid foundation for the industry’s growth.
